Summary of Position

The Process Development Scientist will report to the Chief Scientific Officer and be responsible for overseeing internal upstream and downstream process development activities as well as acting as a Person-in-Plant during the contract development and manufacturing activities using the Company’s viral vector-based platform. Essential duties also include development of longer range strategies to support the Company’s manufacturing needs through clinical development and licensure.

Essential Functions

  • Act as the liaison between contract manufacturing organizations and Altimmune
  • Plan and perform internal manufacturing activities
  • Develop and optimize improved manufacturing methods
  • Create long range plan/strategies to support manufacturing for Altimmune products
  • Generate batch records, SOPs, research protocols and study reports
  • Train and/or mentor junior members of the laboratory as needed
  • Assist in laboratory activities as skill set allows, including cell-based activities

Job Requirements (Essential knowledge, skills and attributes)

  • Advanced degree, PhD preferred, in a biomedical related field
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in process development, viral vector manufacturing experience highly desirable
  • Ability to independently analyze and interpret data and make appropriate decisions based on available data
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate records of work performed.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written, and computer (e.g., MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint)
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to travel and stay at contract manufacturing sites as necessary to oversee key process steps
