Dr. Chalasani currently serves as David W. Crabb Professor of Medicine and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University Health. His research is focused on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and drug induced liver injury (DILI), two highly significant public health problems. His research has been continuously funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1999. He is a founding principal investigator of the NIDDK funded NASH CRN and is the PI for the HIV NASH CRN. His work in NAFLD is focused on clinical and translational aspects of the disease and clinical trials. He published 325 original papers, 3 Practice Guidelines, 47 book chapters/review articles, 35editorials/commentaries, 18 symposium proceedings, and more than 600 abstracts (Google Scholar H-index 98, i10 index 336 with 47,517 citations). He is an elected member of the Alpha Omega Alpha, American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the American Association of Physicians (AAP).
