Title:Director/Senior Director, Business Development, Scientific Search & Evaluation

Summary of Position: This position reports directly to the Chief Business Officer and will lead and be responsible for the scientific and technical assessment of potential acquisition, merger, in-licensing and joint venture opportunities. The successful applicant will also play critical roles in strategic planning and global business development including partnering, mergers & acquisitions, joint ventures, in- and out-licensing, research agreements and fostering innovation.

Essential Functions:

  1. In collaboration with the CBO and other internal and external stakeholders, identify target companies to pursue partnering opportunities including acquisition and in-licensing opportunities compatible with the company’s strategic vision and corporate strategy.
  2. Lead scientific, technical and product development assessment of acquisition targets, opportunities for expansion and partnership and business development targets and report findings to executive management.
  3. Consult and proactively engage industry experts and scientific key opinion leaders regarding potentially synergistic target companies and opportunities.
  4. Organize, plan, and participate in business meetings, industry conferences and events on behalf of the company to meet with partnering candidates and their advisors.
  5. Aggressively pursue viable and fruitful partnering opportunities with target companies.
  6. Manage and lead assessment and scientific/technical due diligence efforts for identified targets and, with key internal stakeholders, facilitate the negotiation of term sheet discussions with partnering candidates.
  7. Work with internal staff, company advisors and identified third parties to prepare presentations and respond to inquiries of partnering candidates.
  8. Identify non-dilutive funding sources including government agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations for company programs, and support and assist in preparation of grant and contract presentation and applications.
  9. Conduct competitive analysis and oversee market analysis, monitor competitive environment and report developments to executive management.
  10. Develop, train and mentor company staff on effective partnering and business development capabilities.
  11. Provide support and candid feedback to the company leadership team.
